Visit a medieval village in Chianti

Visit a medieval village in Chianti

We will start our itinerary with a guided tour of some typical medieval villages in the Tuscany countryside. I will select for you a couple of Chianti old villages to visit together, with an ancient and somewhat mysterious charm where you will feel like going back in time to the Middle Ages. We will walk through narrow streets with traditional artisan shops and typical trattorias, and we will admire medieval walls, defensive towers, castles, fortresses and churches from different ages, some of which are still almost totally intact. Tuscany is full of hidden gems where it is still possible to breathe an air of tradition and authenticity, and I would like to accompany you on this discovery journey.
Wine Tasting and Tuscan Lunch in a Farm

Wine Tasting and Tuscan Lunch in a Farm

We will continue the tour with a guided visit to a typical Tuscany farm, specialized in the production of wine and extra virgin olive oil. I will first start telling you about the farm family owners history, their business and the cultivation techniques of their vineyards and olive groves, then one of the family members will take you visit the cellars where the wine is stored to age in barrels and barriques and finally you will go to the bottling area to understand the final process of wine making. At the end of the visit, you will be able to taste their wines and olive oil paired with some snacks and typical local products. If you wish you can end the experience with a typical Tuscan lunch in their restaurant based on local appetizers, a first course of pasta and a dessert. It will be a fascinating journey into the world of wine, to learn about its history, understand the rules of its production, and learn to distinguish the various types of wines and how to perfectly combine them with food.
Cooking Class in Tuscany farm

Cooking Class in Tuscany farm

At the end of the guided tour, if you wish, you can stay at the farm and attend one of their cooking lessons. What better way to immerse yourself in local culinary traditions than learning to cook like an Italian? A local amateur cook will teach you how to make a full Italian meal consisting of 4/5 courses: appetizers, a first course that usually includes fresh pasta with a sauce, a second course made of meat or vegetables with a side dish, and the dessert. After the cooking lesson, you will be ready to enjoy the fruits of your labor: you will sit at the table and taste the dishes you have cooked paired with excellent local wines.

FAQs

How can I reach the stops included in this itinerary?
It’s necessary to have a means of transport to reach the many stops included in the itinerary. If you need, I can suggest you an excellent private transfers company to book a private driver who will pick you up and take you back to the hotel / airbnb you chose for your stay in Florence. The driver will be at our disposal for the whole duration of the tour and will take us to all the places indicated in this itinerary.
How to reach Chianti from Florence on your own?
Reaching Chianti small towns from Florence by public transport is a bit more complicated. The only two railway stations in Chianti are in Poggibonsi and Castellina in Chianti with departure and / or arrival in Florence or Siena. From here some buses leave to reach the most famous towns such as San Gimignano or Greve in Chianti, but with very reduced times and frequencies.
The other option is to take the buses located near the central station of Florence and choose the route that interests you. Also in this case the frequency is very low.
The best way to reach Chianti is with a private, rental car or with a private driver transfer service.
Can I book the tour if I am vegetarian, vegan or have food allergies?
Sure. If you are vegetarian, if you have allergies or for any other food preferences, do not hesitate to inform me. Remember that all my tours and experiences are 100% customizable according to your needs and tastes and Florence offers many tasty dishes for all tastes.
Can I replace the food and wine tasting at the farm with a cooking lesson?
If requested in advance, it is possible to replace the wine tasting and lunch at the farm with a cooking lesson in a typical countryside house with a Tuscan expert cook, to learn how to make the most famous and delicious local recipes and then taste what you cooked.
Why choose to visit Florence with a local tour guide?
Booking a guided tour with a local tour guide allows you to plan your visit in the best possible way, recommended and lead by an expert who knows the city very well and is more familiar with managing times and itineraries (museum reservations, skip-the-line tickets, alternative routes, tour customization, etc…).
It is also a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture, discovering not only historical and artistic information but also curious anecdotes and legends.
Is this tour customizable?
All my tours are customizable according to your requests and needs. Let me know what you like or what you are looking for and I will create a tailor-made tour for you.
