In the Oltrarno district, let’s go to discover a magnificent Secret Garden in Florence: the Torrigiani Gardens

Good Morning Dear Explorers,

Today I am very excited to share with you a discovery that I made during my explorations in Florence. Although I have been working as a tour guide in Florence for several years and have always thought of knowing it like the back of my hand, this city always knows how to surprise me and give me new ideas to create innovative itineraries!

In via dei Serragli, a famous street of artisans and antique shops in the Oltrarno district, the doors of a magnificent garden unknown to most people only open on reservation and on special occasions: the Torrigiani Gardens.

It is the largest private garden within the city walls and belongs to an important XII century Florentine family of winemakers originally from Lamporecchio: The Torrigiani.

I had the pleasure of being accompanied by the Marquis Vieri Torrigiani, one of the exponents of this ancient and noble family, to discover this wonderful garden and its Masonic and esoteric symbols, who told me interesting anecdotes about the history of his family, the garden and his passion for plants.

The garden was born here at the end of the 18th century as an English and romantic style garden and represents a unique masterpiece of history, architecture and botanical varieties testified by the presence of old and new greenhouses, lemon houses, tepidariums, as well as a large number of plants from all over the world.

It also hosts surprising works of art rich in hidden meanings including the statue of Osiris placed at the entrance, which holds a tablet with the rules that visitors must follow once they are here.

A perfect place for an original and exclusive itinerary, far from the classic and more touristy routes and which represents a perfect combination of history, mystery and nature.

The visit to the Torrigiani Gardens can only be made by reservation and you will be accompanied by the Marquis Torrigiani himself, who will make your experience even more special and unique. You will also have the opportunity to end your visit with a delicious Tuscan aperitivo in the garden or even in his private villa.
