Discover the most authentic district of Florence historic centre and enjoy the so-called “Florentine” vibe with a pleasant walk in the Oltrarno area and a guided tour of the Pitti Palace Palatina Gallery.

Palatina Gallery hosts marvelous artworks collected by the Medici and Lorena Grand Dukes such as Caravaggio, Titian and Raphael paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries. Moreover it also holds the royal apartments of the Savoy family, residing here during the years of Florence as capital of Italy, still decorated and furnished in the style of that time.

Oltrarno, which means “beyond the Arno” river, is an old quarter in Florence historic centre known as the most authentic and least traveled area of the city, full of artisans, typical shops and traditional bars and restaurants.

Our experience will begin with the guided tour of Palatina Gallery in Palazzo Pitti, the ancient residence of Medici family and other dynasties that ruled Tuscany for centuries. The Palatina Gallery hosts a huge artistic heritage that includes paintings, frescoes, furniture from different historical periods and represents the power and wealth of the families who lived in Pitti Palace.

You will have the chance to see Caravaggio, Rubens and Raphael paintings and many others artworks and you will be amazed by the amount of paintings displayed on the walls. We will also visit the royal apartments and walk through the rooms where the prominent Florentine families lived, still furnished with original 19th century furniture.

After we leave Pitti Palace, we will start strolling around Florence Oltrarno discovering secret stories and curious anecdotes that make this district so special and we will learn more about the squares and churches that we will encounter during our walk. For example, we cannot miss Piazza Santo Spirito with its bohemian and genuine spirit, populated by young artists and locals and dominated by the elegant and simple Basilica of Santo Spirito, designed by Brunelleschi and a perfect example of Renaissance architecture.
